Music Matters Choir - Haydn’s ‘The Creation’ Part I
After taking part in a Music Matters Courses ‘come and sing’ day workshop with conductor Gareth Green and accompanist Ian Pattinson (organist at Lancaster Priory), the Music Matters Choir performed extracts from Haydn’s ‘Creation’ in an evening concert at Bridlington Priory.

Soprano: Alexandra Webster
Tenor: Ravi Popoff
Bass: Che Seabourne
Conductor: Gareth Green
Accompanist: Ian Pattinson

Organ Solo: Carillon de Westminster and Louis Vierne

Haydn is often known as the ‘Father of the Symphony’, but ‘The Creation’ is generally considered his masterpiece. The oratorio was written between 1796 and 1798 and uses text from Genesis, the Psalms and also Milton’s Paradise Lost. Part I celebrates the creation of the primal light, the Earth, the heavenly bodies, bodies of water, weather, and plant life.
